James Web Space Telescope - The primary purpose of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is infrared astronomy. With the most powerful infrared resolution and sensitivity ever sent into space, the JWST can view objects that are too old, distant, or faint for the telescope. For example, it is expected to enable a wide range of astronomical and cosmological investigations, such as observations of early galaxies and thorough atmospheric characterization of exoplanets that may be habitable. After a December 2021 launch from Kourou, French Guiana, on an ESA Ariane 5 rocket, JWST entered orbit in January 2022 and is currently conducting instrument modes check-out. Upon completion in July 2022, JWST is planned to replace the Hubble as NASA's flagship astrophysics mission. Science photos will be released on July 12, 2022, at 10:30 EDT/USA for the first official NASA event… Read more. |

Introduction to Evolution - Over time, all life forms evolve, and evolutionary biology focuses on how that evolution happens. Changes in an organism's observable qualities cause changes in its genetic makeup, which is how populations of living things evolve. Mutations in an organism's DNA are one type of genetic alteration produced by damage or replication errors. Because of the relative reproductive success of organisms with particular qualities, natural selection gradually increases or decreases the frequency of certain traits in a population's genetic variation over successive generations… Read more |
Astrobiology of Mars - Astrobiologists are interested in the possibility of life on Mars because of its proximity and resemblance to Earth. There has been no accepted evidence of life on Mars in the past or the present. However, habitable conditions do not necessarily imply life, even though evidence suggests that Mars' surface had liquid water during the ancient Noachian period and may have been suitable for microorganisms… Read more |
Solar System Formation - An enormous molecular cloud collapsed 4.6 billion years ago, giving rise to the Solar System. All but a small portion of the collapsing mass was concentrated in a central region, forming the Sun, while the rest stretched out into a protoplanetary disk… Read more |
